Can industrial performance and active biodiversity protection go hand in hand? At Saverglass, we are convinced that the answer is yes, and that our responsibility extends far beyond the walls of our plants.
Less than two kilometers from our production facility in Acatlán de Juárez, Jalisco, Mexico, lies an ecological treasure: Lake Atotonilco (Laguna de Atotonilco). Designated as a wetland of international importance under the RAMSAR Convention, it hosts more than 250 species of migratory birds and is vital to the region's hydrological balance. However, this precious ecosystem was under severe threat.
An Ecosystem Under ThreatOver the years, eutrophication and sediment accumulation gradually clogged the irrigation canal networks that feed the lagoon. The consequences of this blockage were twofold and dramatic:
50 Kilometers of ActionTrue to our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) approach and our "It’s all about doing" philosophy, Saverglass stepped up. In close partnership with JIMAL (the local public environmental management agency) and AmCham Guadalajara, we funded a major project: the restoration and clearing of 50 kilometers of irrigation canals. 20 employees from our plant personally stepped up and volunteered their time to actively participate in the cleanup operations.
This massive undertaking required deploying heavy machinery to clear the waterways and reconnect the upper watersheds directly back to the lagoon.
Concrete Benefits for Nature & PeopleToday, this historical intervention is bearing fruit, proving that targeted industrial action can revitalize a territory. The results speak for themselves:
At Saverglass, the elegance and excellence of our bottles go hand in hand with our environmental stewardship. By protecting Lake Atotonilco, we reaffirm our core commitment: to protect natural resources and support communities wherever we operate.
