Domaine Serene is the flagship estate of Evenstad Estates, a family-owned collection of world-renowned vineyards and wineries spanning Oregon's Willamette Valley and Burgundy, France. What began with Grace and Ken Evenstad's vision to produce exceptional Pinot Noir has grown into an internationally respected portfolio built on an unwavering commitment to craftsmanship, hospitality, and stewardship. Each estate reflects the same pursuit of excellence, where remarkable architecture, meticulously tended vineyards, and immersive guest experiences come together to celebrate the character of the land. United by a shared philosophy, the Evenstad Estates continue to honor their Oregon roots while carrying their passion for extraordinary winemaking to some of the world's most celebrated wine regions.
A Prestige Winery’s Sustainable Transition
For Domaine Serene, exceptional wine begins long before harvest. It begins with the land. When Grace and Ken Evenstad chose Oregon's Willamette Valley in 1989, they recognized its remarkable soils, climate, and natural beauty as the ideal foundation for producing world class Pinot Noir. As an estate producer, every decision, from vineyard management to bottling, is guided by a deep respect for the land that makes each vintage possible. That commitment to stewardship naturally extends beyond the vineyard, inspiring the winery to continually seek new ways to lessen its environmental impact, including reimagining one of its most iconic assets, their packaging.
Lightweighting the Bottle Without Compromising Iconic Design
For more than three decades, Domaine Serene's Cépage bottle by Saverglass has represented the elegance, craftsmanship, and uncompromising quality that define the brand. Reducing its weight presented a unique challenge. How could the winery meaningfully reduce its carbon footprint without altering a bottle that had become synonymous with its identity?
Grace Evenstad challenged the team to find a solution that preserved every visual and tactile element customers had come to expect all while delivering measurable environmental benefits. Achieving that balance required a partner with both technical expertise and a shared commitment to excellence, making Saverglass the natural choice to help bring the vision to life.
Saverglass’s Expertise in Custom Glass Lightweighting
Together, Domaine Serene and Saverglass approached the project with a simple philosophy. Sustainability should enhance a luxury product, never compromise it. Through an intensely collaborative design process, the teams refined the bottle over multiple iterations, carefully preserving its distinctive silhouette, structural performance, and premium aesthetic while significantly reducing its weight. Rather than simply creating a lighter bottle, they developed a "right weighted" solution that honors the heritage of the brand while embracing a more sustainable future. The result is a bottle that reflects the same precision, craftsmanship, and attention to detail found in every wine it holds.
A Lighter Bottle with Intact Visual Prestige
The new lighter weight Cépage Eco bottle is proof that meaningful sustainability can coexist with uncompromising luxury. By reducing the bottle's weight by more than 200 grams, a 30 percent reduction, Domaine Serene has significantly lowered the carbon emissions associated with glass production and transportation. Beyond the measurable environmental impact, the project established a unified bottle for Domaine Serene's estate wines around the world, strengthening the brand while remaining true to its origins. More than a packaging innovation, the lightweight Cépage Eco bottle embodies Domaine Serene's enduring belief that caring for the land is inseparable from crafting extraordinary wines, and that every thoughtful improvement helps preserve both for generations to come.
